Sunset at the Dunes

The play between sunlight and shadow becomes very obvious at the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes in Death Valley, California. One can even see the sand flying in the air and on top of the dune. Shooting directly into the sun is usually not so rewarding, but with the dusty sky this one came out fine.

Oceanside Sunset

The Oceanside Beach is amazingly empty at this time of day. The Pacific is calm, no wind at all, no noise, just a few seagulls in the distance. What a wonderful evening!

Sunrise at the Pacific

Got to love those sunny early mornings at the beach. At the West Coast the sun rises behind one, which creates an interesting light on the waves, the flowers and the palm trees. This morning scene is in Oceanside in South California, 1 hour North of San Diego and close to Fort Pendleton.

Coronado Beach, CA

Summer time in California. This is how the beach looks in Coronado, San Diego. It's a huge beach, so much space for everyone. You can walk for miles or rest in those read beach chairs in front of the Hotel Del Coronado.

Dunes

One would not expect anything like this is in Southern California among all those green fields and farms. But leaving Glamis on SR 78 going South suddenly these dunes open up. They are the North Algodones Dunes. They have areas for Dune buggy riding with motorhome parking and a place where one can rent buggies or cycles.

Calm Pacific Ocean

It was after 8pm Pacific Time at the San Simeon Coast in California. The sunset was amazing. I liked how the sunshine eliminated the trees and the grass.

Remarkable Point of View

Following the 17 Mile Drive going towards Carmel-By-The-Sea in California, there is suddenly this remarkable tree right on top of a rock. What a beautiful sight!

Wild Pacific Ocean

This is a rough cliff reaching down into the wild, dark blue waters of the Pacific Ocean in California. There might have been a storm far out in the ocean as lots of seaweeds are floating by. Up on the left cliff sits a cormorant, looking out into the sea.

Still waiting for the Sunset.

The Grand Canyon has attracted people since thousands of years. It was a holy site for most of them. Only some of all those wonderful tourists of today coming from around the world, like the ones in this picture, take the time to experience the magnitude of this natural wonder in awe.

Watch Tower

This is early in the morning at the famous Grand Canyon Watch Tower. Usually it's really crowded here, people visiting the gift shop or walking up the stairs to the high tower. Now it's empty and very quiet.

Desert View Watch Tower

Waited here since five o'clock in the morning for the sun to rise behind the famous Grand Canyon Watch Tower. We saw some huge elks grazing along the walkway. One really large male with three females. They were not shy at all, which is no wonder as they all were big and strong. Then suddenly the sun sent her first rays into the canyon, and a large bird flew by enjoying the updraft. What an exciting moment. Down below flows the magic Colorado River.

Misty Morning at the Grand Canyon

Slowly at 5:30 in the morning the first sun rays arrived at the Grand Canyon and lit up the Colorado River which is not always so clearly visible. It was a beautiful sight! In the distance on the Eastern Side of the canyon is the Desert View where the Watch Tower is located.

Navajo Bridge

This amazing steel bridge spans the Colorado River in Arizona near Marble Canyon and Lee's Ferry. The bridge on the left is for vehicles traveling on U.S. Route 89A. The right side is for pedestrians only, it was the older bridge. Both run 470 feet high. The view down to the Colorado River is breathtaking.

Monument Valley with Clouds.

Oljato Monument Valley

From this viewpoint it looked calm and sunny, but down in the Monument Valley a blasting sand storm was forcing cars and RVs to find shelter up here in this little cove.
