These horses are very lucky. They have everything they need, compared to the ones on the other side of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range where there is the desert of the Death Valley.

It seemed to be a good idea to capture the contrast between light and shadow using monochrome. Especially the clouds turned out really powerful. What an amazing landscape! This is the view from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon looking towards the Desert in the East.

. . . They Can Make It Anywhere. These pretty little flowers were holding onto the rock, come wind or high water. Life at the Grand Canyon can be rough. It’s between 5,000-9,000 feet high. Hot in the summer and cold with snow in the winter.

Looking at the Grand Canyon through the trees creates a soft image of the canyon which is actually very rough and rocky the further you go down into it. Plus in the summer it's really hot on the trails inside the canyon.

The main structure currently standing at Hermits Rest was designed by architect Mary Colter. It is the most western point on the Canyon's South Rim. The fireplace is definitely used and seems to still be working fine.

Around 1891 a lady by the name of Louis Boucher had this place built here. It's called Hermits Rest and is the westernmost point on the Canyon's South Rim that is accessible by Coach or Trolley. The building was designed to appear to be a natural stone formation, closely tied to the land with the same color rocks. This is the porch overlooking the canyon.

This building at the Grand Canyon Village was constructed in 1904 according to the traditional methods of building of the Hopi Indians. The interior walls are plastered with adobe, and the ceilings are composed of saplings, twigs and grass covered with mud, which resembles how huts were built in the old days. Now there is a little store inside.

Early morning hike along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, when suddenly this young guy jumps up onto the rock like there was no gravity. And then he sits there smiling. What a pleasant surprise! We were clapping for joy. And he definitely enjoyed the attention.

Looking into the Canyon against the setting sun is exciting. The Canyon becomes very dramatic. But some sunshine remains on the rocks and on a small part of the Colorado River down below.

Had to get up early to be in place at 5:00am to see the Grand Canyon wake up. The air was cold and fresh. Needed an extra jacket. But the walk and the wait was worth every minute of it. We saw a huge Elk with three females right next to us. They were not shy at all. Now the Canyon looks like on fire. Fantastic scenery!
