Bonnie Springs Ranch

The Ranch was 20 mins West of Las Vegas. It was originally created in the 1840s, as a stopover for wagon trains heading to California. Bonnie McGaugh purchased the ranch in 1952 and lived there for the rest of her life. Bonnie Springs was sold in 2019, and will be a rich residential community by the name of The Ranch at Red Rock.

Outside of Las Vegas

Most visitors of Las Vegas have no idea what is 20 minutes outside of the strip. There are huge mountains, a Red Rock Canyon and high desert sceneries.

McCarran Int. Airport

Rhyolite School House

Can you imagine the little kids running around in this school house, looking out the windows into the valley on the other side. Wikipedia says, this town was started in 1905 by two men searching for gold. It became a town of 1,200 people in two weeks and reached a population of 2,500 by June 1905. By then it had 50 saloons, 35 gambling tables, cribs for prostitution, 19 lodging houses, 16 restaurants, half a dozen barbers, a public bath house, and a weekly newspaper. One can say, they were "busy beavers"!

City Center Las Vegas

When I look at these large glass buildings, I am mostly intrigued by the shape and the reflections in the windows of who knows what. It creates some surreal images which we normally don’t see. This picture is the view into the City Center from I-15. On the left is the Vdara and on the right is the beautiful Aria building.

Nelson Water Tower

Nelson has also a water tower. Don't think it is still working though. This village is in the desert of Nevada, about an hour South of Las Vegas on SR 165. Everything stays looking good in this hot and dry climate and does not rost away.

Nelson is in the middle of the desert in Nevada, about an hour South of Las Vegas on SR 165. The owners of this place have collected everything since many years and people came by and brought them all their old stuff and the man collected it all.

Morning at the Colorado River

On this side is Nevada and over there is Arizona. And in between flows the magnificent Colorado River. The wind is blowing very strong from down South. It's hard to stand still and hold the camera.

At the Colorado River

If we had a little boat we could cross the Colorado River and be in Arizona shortly. But driving to the other side will take many hours, if it's possible at all, as the terrain is wild and rough. This point is at the end of Navada SR 165, about an hour South of Las Vegas.

The Colorado River

It's a rough terrain South of Las Vegas at the end of Nevada SR165 coming from Nelson. It's morning time with haze covering the mountains on the Eastern side of the Colorado River in Arizona.

Trading Post

Trading post in Nelson, Nevada on SR 165. It's about an hour South of Las Vegas. This lady has everything one can ever imagine, even rattlesnakes and skulls. Very interesting place to visit. A little further down the road runs the Colorado River.
