Under the Cedar Trees

It was really dark under the Cedar trees. But the view through the trees stood out beautifully in the warm morning light. This was on the 17 Mile Drive near Monterey, California.

Cedar at the Pacific

The Lone Surfer

Along this huge coast line of the Pacific Ocean there was only one lone surfer. He seemed to enjoy catching the waves even though he was all by himself. That's the benefit of the Pacific coast line, that there are hardly any people, if that is what you prefer.

Hazy morning at the Golf Course

This is part of the Golf Course at the 17 Mile Drive in Monterey, California. The morning haze from the Pacific is slowly moving away showing us the trees and the hills in the background. This Drive is open to the public for a small fee which is very nice of them to allow. So everyone can enjoy the view and the breeze from the ocean

Coastal Flowers

Sunny Morning at the Creek

We stayed at the Sequoia RV Ranch in Three Rivers. This beautiful Mankins Creek is running by the park. We had a great time in this area. Now on the way to the Sequoia National Forest.

Sunset at the Ranch

These horses are very lucky. They have everything they need, compared to the ones on the other side of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range where there is the desert of the Death Valley.

A View Through the Trees

Looking at the Grand Canyon through the trees creates a soft image of the canyon which is actually very rough and rocky the further you go down into it. Plus in the summer it's really hot on the trails inside the canyon.

Hermits Rest, Grand Canyon

Around 1891 a lady by the name of Louis Boucher had this place built here. It's called Hermits Rest and is the westernmost point on the Canyon's South Rim that is accessible by Coach or Trolley. The building was designed to appear to be a natural stone formation, closely tied to the land with the same color rocks. This is the porch overlooking the canyon.

In the old days after a streneous hike along the rim of the Grand Canyon people could stay here for a while. Today we get there by trolley and can find things at a little shop.

The Hopi House

This building at the Grand Canyon Village was constructed in 1904 according to the traditional methods of building of the Hopi Indians. The interior walls are plastered with adobe, and the ceilings are composed of saplings, twigs and grass covered with mud, which resembles how huts were built in the old days. Now there is a little store inside.

Grand Canyon Surprise

Early morning hike along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, when suddenly this young guy jumps up onto the rock like there was no gravity. And then he sits there smiling. What a pleasant surprise! We were clapping for joy. And he definitely enjoyed the attention.
